Administrative Functions:
- Assists DON to Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilities.
- Maintain written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
- Maintain a reference library of written nursing material (i.e., Regulations, Standards of Practice, etc.) that will assist the nursing service department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the resident.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department. Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to enhance the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care in the absence of the DON.
- Actively participate in an ongoing Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program for the nursing service department.
- Assists DON in participation in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies as necessary or as may be directed.

- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Monitor the facility’s Quality Measures
, and survey reports. Assist in developing plans of action to correct potential or identified problem areas.
- Assist DON in the development, implementation, and maintenance of an ongoing risk management program for the nursing department.
- Comply with weekly angel rounds. Angel rounds documents are to be submitted to the Administrator no later than the close of business on Fridays.
- Email is to be checked daily throughout the day and respond to email on a timely basis.
- The Director is to attend all Mandatory meetings, with no exceptions (unless approved by the Administrator)!! Morning Stand-up is a MUST!!
- Submit department QAPI data in a timely manner.
- Assist DON in development, implementation, and action plans to correct potential or identified risk problem areas.
- Gathering and analyzing infection data to make evidence-based decisions.
- Educating medical and public health professionals on infection prevention protocols to facilitate emergency preparedness.
- Isolating and treating infected individuals to contain the spread of infectious diseases
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (includes education, skills, and experience): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must have, as a minimum, five (5) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Leadership skills and ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
- The ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and the willingness to handle challenging residents.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office or similar software applications.
- Ability to use office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax/scan machines.
- Ability to multi-task, work successfully under pressure, effectively prioritize, manage time and workload.
- Willingness and ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activity services.
- Possession of excellent communication skills and ability to convey information concerning a resident’s condition.
- The ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must have a good driving record, valid, driver’s license, vehicle insurance and a reliable vehicle.
